        "content": "The location was beautiful and exactly what my husband and I were looking for. Unfortunately we did not have the best experience with the staff, as there was turnover 3x in the year that we were dealing with Aqua Blue for our wedding. Phone calls and emails went unanswered until finally the new person in charge would reach out. That happened 3x, which was more than frustrating. Items in the signed contract were being questioned and changed as the time went on. We were originally told that the venue would seat 250. Come to find out, 3 event coordinators down the line,   we would be lucky to seat 200 (great feeling when you sent invites to 220guests...). Luckily we ended up with 188 guests and fit perfectly in the room. The room was newly renovated with a new AC unit. It was the first hot day in RI, 85 degrees. Let's just say our guests were soaking wet as the AC unit was not compatible to keep the room cool. There were various miscommunications with the hotel staff, from room blocks to welcome bags not making it into rooms when we had numerous families traveling from Ohio staying in the hotel for their stay, which was nonetheless frustrating. Our day was not ruined by these events (we all lost about 10lbs from  sweating) it just made the planning and days leading up to our wedding a little more stressful than it should have been. Be mindful when booking, that yes the ballroom is beautiful and the location is a prime spot, I would not recommend for a large event unless the staff and management become a bit more consistent. Side note, the event coordinators/managers that we were dealing with at the time of the wedding were great!",

        "content": "My wedding day itself went on without a hitch and was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, I believe it had to do with all my other vendors. I was a little apprehensive about booking with Aqua Blue because of the other reviews, but the location was exactly what we were looking for. Initially things were going well. I was working with a woman named Catherine, had filled out all the contracts and sent them to her along with my deposit. After a while she took too long responding to my emails until she didn’t respond at all. There were renovations being done and was an event for a grand opening that we showed up to only to find out it had been cancelled without notice. Renovations were not finished. This was more than a year before my wedding date so I wasn’t too nervous. Not long after I received an email from someone else stating she was the new coordinator and wanted to touch base. I responded and we sent a few emails back and forth. The last email I sent had a question in it which was never answered. That was the last of working with her. A few months before the wedding I got an email from Miranda stating she had taken over. She explained to me that she did not have any copies of the contracts on file, but thankfully did have record of my deposit so my date was secure. I redid all the contracts and mailed them back. There was no longer a discount for number of rooms booked in our room block but at this point I felt like I had to pick and choose my battles and just let it go. We scheduled for us to come down to see the finished ballroom. The ballroom was beautiful and we were happy with the finished product. We also met with Acacia who would be there the day of our wedding. She told us we needed to rent chairs for the ceremony on the terrace unless we were having our guests stand (obviously not, and I was annoyed that this was just being brought up now). However, I felt confident things were going in the right direction. Miranda was responsive to emails and always got back to me except for one email I sent 2 weeks before the wedding. It was something minor and I figured I’d ask at the rehearsal. We show up to the rehearsal only to find out that no one knew we were scheduled to rehearse there that day but luckily there was no event scheduled and we were able to. I also found out that both Miranda and Acacia no longer worked there. After the rehearsal I went to the desk and refused to leave until I spoke to someone regarding my wedding, mainly to make sure they knew I was getting married there the next day. I spoke to the GM Mary Ellen who assured me that she would be there for the wedding and we reviewed my file together ensuring that everything was in place. I also found out that there were chairs on the terrace that would be there for our wedding. We discovered this after we rented, loaded and brought 100 chairs to the third floor. There was no offer of reimbursement even though I was told I needed to rent chairs myself. Mary Ellen was there for our wedding and our day was perfect. I’m thankful for our other vendors who coordinated for us because they are responsible for our wedding being a smooth, successful day.  My card was also charged $1500 one month before the wedding for the room block which should not have been. I called and the problem was resolved that week. The final disappointment was no breakfast for overnight guests. As long as you have a good coordinator your wedding day should be fine but expect several bumps along the way",

        "content": "Pros: Location\nCons: Everything Else\n\nWe booked the Grand Ballroom and a block of 30 rooms for our daughter’s wedding reception.  In the time between booking and the reception there were three management changes and with each change was a discussion about the contract – things like the room block and Bridal Suite discounts were questioned.   We had to put down a $1000 deposit for the room block and after the block was filled, had to ask numerous times via phone, email and in person to get the deposit back.  The management had to wait for permission from the owners to write the check.   We finally got the deposit back during the reception.   The band we hired asked to confirm some electrical requirements with the hotel.  Despite numerous requests, the hotel never responded.  During the entire time the staff rarely returned calls or emails.   The management did not show for appointments – like the day before event when we had set up time to drop off things to be set up for the reception.   Overall, we spent way too much time interacting with the unprofessional hotel staff. \nOn the day of the wedding things went smoothly, thanks in large part to the caterer (Amalfi Catering).  The major issue on the wedding day was the air conditioning.  The ballroom was extremely hot and this was on a 68 degree cloudy day.  I can’t imagine what it will be like on a hot summer day.  The event coordinator told me that the air conditioning was at its maximum and there was cool air coming out of the units but the entire system was obviously undersized for the room with 170 people in it (Aqua Blue advertises the room capacity at 250).  She found some small fans and opened the outside doors but this had little effect.   Our guests were very uncomfortable.\n\nAll this hotel provides are rooms to sleep in and a ballroom, neither off which are professionally run.   It seems like the owners are trying to run this hotel with minimal investment and it shows.  I would not recommend this hotel for a wedding reception or other large event.",

        "content": "We recently got married in Narragansett and had our reception in the Ballroom at Aqua Blue Hotel. In the beginning of the process, everything was great, but then it took a turn for the worst. The ball room was under renovations and no one contacted us to let us know. We found out when we went to have our menu tasting and when we inquired about it, no one was willing to speak with us about the changes. It wasn't until 2 months later we found out via Facebook that there was to be an open house to show off the new ball room. We went down there only to find out the event was cancelled without notice. We then figured we would set up our room block while we were there as to not waste the trip. There was only one individual who could help with that and we were told that she was \"emotionally unavailable\" to speak with us and set up the block. We then set up another meeting with the hotel only to have it cancelled upon arrival. We finally got to see the ball room and set up the room block a month later. \n\nThe room is modernized now and I liked it better than the original. My now Wife, did not like some of the character aspects she loved in the beginning being taken away now but saw the potential.\n\nThey agreed to honor the initial pricing information we were provided but when guests went to book, the front desk could not find our block or the pricing was incorrect. We finally thought everything was straightened out when, 6 weeks before the event, I received a call from the new individual in charge of events, stating they had no information on our event and that we needed to pay an additional $3,300 to hold the event. This is extremely frustrating and unprofessional to try and strong arm couples out of additional funds right before their event. That situation was straightened out as well and then 2 days before our wedding, there was another staffing change and someone new in charge who had no idea what was going on. This lead to another lengthy discussion about all we went through up until that point.\n\nAqua Blue and their event staff dropped the ball on more than one occasion, and increased the stresses of an already stressful time. We pay these venues and vendors to help take part of that stress away and Aqua Blue only added to it.\n\nCatharina was now in charge and sympathized with our situation and apologized on behalf of everyone involved. She stayed late and accommodated everything we needed and helped to set up the Ball Room and ensured everything went off without issue. She was one of the only bright spots in an overall extremely frustrating and disheartening process.\n\nThe rooms were beautiful and the staff was polite and helped with what they could. I would stay there again but would not hold an event of any kind at this venue in the future. ",

Management, Maryellen takes two days off in a row,  I was told,  without anyone else covering for her. Do not book anything at this hotel. Disgusting how unconcerned the hotel is with having a manager available yet they charged over $600 for two night in a tiny room with a view of an upside down table. ",

The deck where we had our ceremony was a disaster and unfinished. Guests and myself tripped multiple times. The railing was PVC piping.  Rooms were dirty, guests had difficulty booking in our block, guests were unable to check into their rooms, and staff was incompetent and untrained due to poor management. The owner refused to acknowledge over a dozen requests to discuss the issues. The only saving grace was the wedding coordinator...she was wonderful and was the only reason the day was a success.  She went above and beyond and and did her best with a horrible venue.",

        "content": "DONT BOOK! Hotel is completely under construction, owner suppose ably  has the hotel up for sale while he's leasing it. The lessee is the one completing all the  construction. In order to have a wedding here you need to give them the full amount, they don't take deposits to hold the date (probably because they need your money to complete the construction). The Ballroom Grand Opening was supposed to be Friday 5/5/17  and I showed up and the doors were locked, lights were off and Catherine the wedding coordinator was no where insight. (she went to get dinner the Front Desk told us) There were numerous couples from all over and no one received any notifications that the event was cancelled due to construction. Paying customers that wanted to see their wedding venue of which they paid for were totally disappointed. The front desk stated it was canceled due to water leaks when really the room looked like a construction site through the door. From being an RI resident, this place has always been very shady and sketchy... Horror story after horror story. Watch out they try to sell dreams and don't care how people feel and will take all your money and run. The hotel staff also doesn't have their stuff together. A friend of mine is still waiting for her refund from the hotel, they accidently charged her for 2 rooms when she only stayed in one. STAY AWAY!",

        "content": "Even though we didn't have our Wedding at The Village Inn, I wanted to post something about Amalfi Catering.We hired Amalfi Catering to cater our wedding reception at The North End Beach Club in Narragansett. Our guests are still talking about how good the food was. We had the raw bar as an option at our cocktail hour and the shrimp were huge! We worked with Jim beforehand. He is always pleasant and willing to help you out with anything that you may need. All of the staff at the reception were professional and on point. Amalfi Catering is definitely worth the money. You won't have any regrets!",

        "content": "Let me start of by saying that I've been know to be a bit demanding and I had high exceptions for my wedding day. I'm sure I was a bit of a Bridezilla lol. With that being said Amalfi Catering and Staff went above and beyond all exceptions. Everything was perfect, from the Ceremony & Cocktail hour to our Dinner and Dessert. My guests are still talking about how amazing the food was. The Staff and Service was again above my exceptions!! Planning a wedding is stressful, but Jim took care of everything for me and always put me at ease. I couldn't have asked for a better day!",

I had read some of the reviews on the hotel and I have to say I was a little nervous about our stay, however they definitely had their act together for us and our guests. The rooms were great, the renovations look amazing. As far as our Caterers Amalfi catering,   I can not say enough about how great they were. From our first meeting with Jim to the day of the wedding, everything was perfect. The day of, Kasey (the banquet Lead) took such great care of us, her attention to details really made if perfect. We had our taste meal in December and the food for us was really important ( we love to eat!! lol). Well they delivered!! The Food amazing. Amalfi Catering made my day perfect!",

        "content": "We chose Jim and Almafi Catering for our ceremony set-up and reception catering. It was our experience that when we communicated with him in a clear, straight-forward manner, he did the same (he was very blunt and honest with us). Our off-site ceremony was set us exactly as we wanted it, the cocktail hour food was great, and the head waitress kept us informed throughout the evening. We had a mishap with some of the food service during our reception and we were able to talk with Jim about it afterwards and he was honest and fair. If you know what you want, can communicate it, and make all your appointments and follow through, then I would recommend Almafi Catering.\r\n\r\nOn a separate note: I would absolutely NOT recommend doing any business with the Village Inn (they recently changed their name to Aqua Blue). We consistently got misinformation from the front desk ans other staff. We and some of our guests stayed there and overall the rooms were in disrepair. We suggest that any future clients of Almafi stay at a different hotel.",

        "content": "We got married at The Towers, so blocking rooms at the Village Inn (now Aqua Blue) and the Atlantic House seemed like the best bet.\r\n\r\nFrom the beginning, the process was so frustrating. After approximately 20 calls, voicemails, etc. over the course of 2 months, we were unable to get ahold of a manager to block rooms. Finally, we drove down there and waited all day until we could speak to her in person. About 2 hours after we were told she'd be available, we finally met and blocked the rooms.\r\n\r\nAfter the rooms were blocked ($125 fee), I wanted to make some changes. Again, endless phone calls, emails, voicemails, messages. After 2 months, I gave up and the changes were never made.\r\n\r\nCome our wedding day, as guests were checking in, well over HALF  of our guests staying at the hotels had major problems. For the majority, they had no room. Some were turned away (even though they already paid). Others were told they had no room but were relocated to a different hotel for MORE MONEY. Every single person who reserved a family suite was told that they were unavailable and were instead given regular rooms. It was a nightmare for all of our guests and we felt horrible.\r\n\r\nIf you are planning a wedding in this area, I would advise booking your hotels anywhere else.",

        "content": "Do NOT have your wedding here! The area is beautiful, which is the only reason the Village Inn (now \"Aqua Blue\") is still in business.  The staff is completely incompetent.  They rarely answered the phone and when they did, they were rude and gave out wrong information.  Many guests were told when they called to make reservations that the wedding was not there.  They took reservations for 2 queen beds and then told guests when they showed up that all rooms had king beds.  They canceled people's reservations without notice and bumped guests to their sister hotel (Atlantic house - also terrible).  When  we checked in the \"cleaning staff\" was hanging out in our room & laying on the bed (not cleaning!) They were not in uniform. The hotel name changed 2 days before my wedding and I found out about it ACCIDENTALLY when i called to discuss another issue.  No one notified me of this.  They also never called me to tell me about the renovations that were occurring and were incomplete at the time of my wedding.  They also didn't post the information on their website for guests that were booked.  Amalfi Catering alleged they had no knowledge of the name change either (I will get to them in a minute!) I had to send out postcards to all my guests notifying them of the name change because up until a month before the wedding, the hotel would not confirm the date the new sign would go up.  I had 100 people coming in from out of state and they could not tell me when the sign would change.  The renovations were supposed to be completed in the spring.  By end of June, still incomplete.  Two months before my wedding, the phones didn't work for a month and no one could make a reservation. I could not get in touch with the manager at all even though i sent emails.  Every time something went wrong, which was constantly, i would email the manager and she would never get back to me.  I had to call every day for a week to get her on the phone and never got a call back.  I sent emails detailing the issues with the hotel reservation takers and nothing changed. I reached out to Amalfi for help but they said that the hotel was separate.  Finally the hotel manager said our room would be \"upgraded\" because of all of the issues, but they put us in a tiny room that was barely big enough for me to move in.  The Bridal Suite was booked but many of our guests had bigger rooms than ours because they were forced to get them and pay more.  They would say they were booked and then another guest would call and get a reservation.  The entire experience was awful and stressful.\r\nAs far as Amalfi Catering - the only positive was the food was good.  Jim Ledonne will tell you anything to get you to book there and then never remembers you.  He showed up late and only put out 98 chairs for our wedding ceremony of 128 people.  He hounded us about the cocktail hour several times right before our ceremony because it was \"sprinkling\" out.  He pushed us to bring it inside and then when the musician for the cocktail hour asked what to do he said he was \"just the caterer\". The food went out late even though we started the reception early. He also pushed us to have a smores bar instead of a cake and put out a pan of marshmallows and some chocolate sauce.  It was pathetic.  He promised a 3% discount for paying cash/check and then would not honor it.  \r\nHe also kept \"reminding\" us to tip him…so inappropriate!  Overall extremely disappointed. ",

        "content": "Amalfi Caterers are the only reason my wedding wasn't completely ruined.  If you are getting married here:  Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT stay at this hotel.  Make your reservations else where.  The venue itself is lovely.  Amalfi Catering is excellent.  But the hotel is an epic nightmare.  We arrived at 3:00 for our 5:00 p.m. wedding and the reservations were a nightmare, guests didn't have rooms.  Rooms were uninhabitable: toilets weren't bolted down, sinks wouldn't drain.  This was after three months of conversations and assurances that they reservations were all set and there was nothing to worry about.  Funny how the manager disappeared the day of our wedding and didn't even have the decency to speak with us or attempt to remedy the situation.  She left it all to the poor 19 year old kid at the desk to deal with 50 angry guests (including a bride and groom).  They double booked rooms and gave both sets of guests keys - yes, I walked in on my husband's family showering and getting ready.  I filed a complaint with the BBB and they ignored it.  They didn't discount our rooms or even just apologize.  How about \"I'm sorry\"?  I'm sorry the Village Inn staff is incompetent and shouldn't be in business.  The owner should be ashamed of himself but I guess when you're the only show in town, you can be horrible to people without ramifications.  I hope you don't use the hotel and warn family and friends not stay there either.  ",

        "content": "This review is in regards to Amalfi Catering and the Grand Ballroom AND IS NOT ABOUT THE HOTEL ITSELF \"THE VILLAGE INN\"\r\nWe live in CT and got married in Narragansett, RI.  We knew we wanted an ocean / beach themed wedding and must have looked at 12+ venues before finding Jim LeDonne and Amalfi Catering at The Village Inn.  Right from the very beginning we knew we had found our wedding venue.  The ballroom was BEAUTIFUL and spacious enough for our guest count (~125).  The location was perfect.  Ceremony and reception on site but in two different locations was a plus.  Jim was truly a rockstar.  He was good at taking us every step of the way from our initial meeting (15 months in advance) to our wedding day.  He made sure we did not overlook a single detail.  He was spectacular at recommending other vendors that have displayed their best performance(s) at this venue.  He was also good at telling us how to save money and what not to waste our time / $ / effort on as far as decorations / extras that just aren't worth it come the big day.  \r\nJim is loose, laid back, down to earth, extremely easy to work with yet carried himself with the utmost level of professionalism at all times.  His tasting was carried out tremendously, all of our meetings were on target at all times.  I made a run out to Narragansett the Wednesday before our wedding to bring decorations / favors / place cards etc ahead of time.  Jim and one of his assistants Casey were spot on at looking everything over and knowing what is what and where it all goes (ceremony site vs reception) even though I couldn't answer all their questions as to what my bride was looking for.  \r\nCome our wedding day I kept going in and checking on progress and everything was spot on, I didn't have to address anything. Everything was perfect.\r\nJim was excellent at coordinating every excruciating detail every step of the way.  Jim kept everyone (wedding party) focused and where we needed to be right through the ceremony and up until introductions at the reception where our DJ (Seann Jackson of Music Mixers Entertainment) took control of us.  We felt we were in good hands the entire time.\r\nWe also did our rehearsal dinner with Jim at the South County Museum.  With no surprise that went off without any issues also.  Everything was perfect. Jim and his crew performed to the highest standards.  The off-site rehearsal dinner did not impact our ceremony at all.  The transition was seamless.  \r\nBIG THANK YOU TO AMALFI CATERING: JIM, CASEY AND JUSTIN.\r\n\r\nI'd just like to comment that The Village Inn as a HOTEL ITSELF (COMPLETELY SEPARATE FROM AMALFI CATERING AND THE BALLROOM) was less than desirable.  The rooms were less than par, all of their hotel staff are useless and both hotel managers are complete airheads.  Booking a wedding block with the hotel was a DISASTER.  I still to this day can not understand how they messed everything up.  From turning guests away (saying the block was full when it wasn't) to not honoring their \"2 night minimum not required within a wedding block\" to trying to give the honeymoon suite (for the bride & groom) to guests trying to book within the wedding block, to guests getting dropped for credit card info flaws (was an error on their part - not our guests) JUST A COMPLETE DISASTER.  There was a tremendous amount of dust / cobwebs on the doorway trim inside our room, there was a piece of cardboard duct taped up in the shower.  Just a complete disappointment. \r\n",

        "content": "We were worried about The Village Inn because they had terrible online reviews... well don't listen!  They were terrific - a little pricey but worth it for the location.  Except for screwing up a few early reservations... which they promptly fixed.. it was an excellent beach wedding hotel.  Rooms were clean & comfortable with nice views. Service was good. We used the deck upstairs for an impromptu cocktail party and ended up at the Maharaja restaurant bar after the wedding. Great after hours place!",

I loved dealing with this group and recommend The Village Inn food provided by Almalfi Catering, to any bride out there who wants that beautiful wedding but refuses to go into debt over it.",

        "content": "I thought it was great. Our guests were so happy, the rooms were recently redecorated and beautiful, and the location can’t be beat. Annie was also nice enough to let us have the upstairs deck for breakfast the morning after the wedding, and let us bring in our own food from dunkin donuts for our goodbye brunch.  No complaints here!",

        "content": "We had the ceremony and reception at the Village Inn. The food was great and they really did a superior job the day of. My only issue was during the ceremony they forgot the aisle runner and my dress got really dirty from the deck.",
